"Listen, there are people that are coming down the pilot ladder of the prow. You go up that pilot ladder, get on that ship and tell me how many people are still on board. And what they need. Is that clear? You need to tell me if there are children, women or people in need of assistance. And tell me the exact number of each of these categories. Is that clear? Listen Schettino, that you saved yourself from the sea, but I am going to... I'm going to make sure you get in trouble. ...I am going to make you pay for this. Go on board."
Captain Gregorio De Falco

bullet India 'rules out' London Olympic boycott over 'Blood of Bhopal' Dow's sponsorship corner

India has backed away from threats to boycott the London 2012 Olympics over the handing of a sponsorship deal to the Dow Chemical company, which has been blamed for 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) said that there is 'no question' of a boycott of the London Games amid a row over Dow Chemical's seven million pound fabric curtain deal, the BBC reports.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan recently called on Indian athletes to stay away unless the organisers ended the sponsorship.

"The funds intended for sponsoring the Olympics would be far better spent in alleviating the misery suffered by the people of Bhopal," Chauhan said.

But now IOA's acting president Vijay Kumar Malhotra said a boycott is not on the agenda.

"There is no question of India boycotting the London Olympics. We are not boycotting the Olympic Games and that is very clear on the IOA's part," the Hindu quoted Malhotra, as saying.

Malhotra, however, said the sponsorship issue would be raised with the London organisers.

"We want to express in black and white that there has been opposition in the country to the London Games being associated with Dow Chemical," he said. (ANI)

bullet Detroit Star corner
The Detroit Star is essentially a local Detroit newspaper, but with a national and international perspective, designed to provide readers with a one-stop shop for Detroit, national US, regional, and world news coverage, weather and sports information, with live updates on breaking business stories, and what's happening in the financial markets.

The biggest advantage we have is that we are an online newspaper, which means we are constantly refreshing our stories as more and more information comes to hand. Often when a story breaks the initial details are sketchy.

We and our sources around the world work hard to gather more information, verify facts, and provide a perspective of the major stories. Expert opinion often accompanies our articles to better inform readers, and provide a more complete understanding
of the news we deliver.

Financial markets and business reports are regular features as we pin down what's happening, and constantly refresh stock market indice readings, dollar currency rates, and breaking business news reports. Our world sports coverage is a priority, as is our regional news.

We like to think if you're looking for breaking news out of Detroit, Michigan, the United States, or the world, you'll look for it first at the Detroit Star.
