Tanya Blatz, the Child and Youth Services Coordinator at the U.S. Army Garrison-Detroit Arsenal, has been selected as a winner of the highly esteemed Installation Management Command Stalwart Award for calendar year 2024. The nomination, endorsed by Garrison leadership, recognizes Blatz's exceptional dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of Soldiers, Civilians, and their families at the Detroit Arsenal.
Blatz boasts a remarkable career spanning more than two decades in service to the federal government, with a specialized focus on Family and Morale Welfare and Recreation programs. Beginning her journey in January 2000 as a CYS sports specialist, she steadily climbed the ranks, assuming increasing responsibility and leadership roles. In her current position as CYS Coordinator, she oversees all aspects of child and youth programming and services at the Detroit Arsenal, demonstrating expertise in fiscal management, human resources, and program development.
"Tanya is the personification of IMCOM service principles," said Carrie Mead, garrison manager. "She continually demonstrated exceptional professionalism as she guided her team through the significant challenges created by the COVID pandemic that impacted every aspect of CYS programs."
Some of her multifaceted contributions across various areas, include:
Resource and Human Capital Management: Blatz spearheaded comprehensive mentoring and training initiatives for her team, encompassing crucial areas like financial budgeting, personnel systems, and leadership development. She championed the updating of all CYS Standard Operating Procedures to align with IMCOM policies, ensuring a safe and compliant environment for children and staff.
Leadership and Supervision: Blatz fosters a culture of teamwork, consistently recognizing and appreciating the contributions of her team. She actively invests in their professional growth, providing regular feedback, mentorship, and opportunities for leadership development. Her leadership has been instrumental in maintaining high safety standards and fostering a positive work environment within the CYS division.
Customer Service Excellence: Blatz prioritizes customer satisfaction, actively seeking feedback from parents and staff to continuously improve CYS programs. She encourages creativity and innovation, leading her team to develop engaging activities and utilize innovative platforms like Microsoft Teams to enhance program accessibility and reach. Her dedication to customer service has resulted in increased participation in CYS programs and strengthened community partnerships.
Business Planning and Process Improvement: Blatz spearheaded strategic initiatives to secure grant funding, reducing program costs and expanding opportunities for children and youth. She implemented robust inventory management processes, ensuring accountability and efficient resource allocation. Her data-driven approach and commitment to continuous improvement have significantly enhanced the efficiency and effectiveness of CYS operations.
"Tanya has positively contributed to the success of IMCOM and our Nation's Soldiers, Families, and Civilians throughout the year," added Mead. "She is keenly aware of the importance of the lines of effort as prescribed by the IMCOM commanding general."
The IMCOM Stalwart Award recognizes individuals who embody the highest standards of excellence and make significant contributions to the IMCOM mission. Blatz's nomination is a testament to her unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of the Detroit Arsenal community.
