Taylor Ward had three hits, including a go-ahead two-run homer, and the visiting Los Angeles Angels defeated the Detroit Tigers 7-4 on Saturday.
Ward scored two runs and knocked in three. Jo Adell hit a three-run homer and Luis Rengifo added a solo shot.
Angels starter Yusei Kikuchi (6-7) gave up four runs, eight hits and two walks while striking out seven in five innings. Los Angeles closed out the game with four relievers each tossing an inning of scoreless relief. Kenley Jansen picked up his 21st save.
Javier Baez had three hits and scored a run for the Tigers. Matt Vierling, Gleyber Torres, Andy Ibanez and Jake Rogers drove in a run apiece.
Charlie Morton (7-10), making his second start since being acquired from Baltimore, surrendered six runs, seven hits and one walk while recording 10 strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
The Angels scored a run in the first on Mike Trout's two-out single and Ward's run-scoring double.
Detroit took a 2-1 lead in the second. Wenceel Perez led off with a triple and Ibanez brought him home with a single. Baez had a one-out double to put runners in scoring position and Rogers knocked in Ibanez with a sacrifice fly.
Los Angeles regained the lead in the fourth. Ward smacked a one-out single and Yoan Moncada was hit by a pitch. Adell then blasted a 400-foot homer to left.
Detroit tied it in the bottom of the inning. Dillon Dingler and Baez hit back-to-back singles to put runners on the corners. Dingler scored on Vierling's sacrifice fly. After Baez stole second, Torres brought him home with a double.
The Angels took the lead once again in the fifth. Nolan Schanuel led off with a single and scored on Ward's one-out homer to left center, his 27th long ball of the season.
The Tigers left two runners stranded in the sixth and another in the seventh. Rengifo gave his team some breathing room with his eighth-inning homer to right center.
